Should You Have Agreed To A Search?
– JR, Texas
Answer:
Agree to a search or not agree to a search?
The answer is simple. Never agree to a search. My father, the former cop, would never agree to a search. He doesn’t smoke and has never used or transported any illegal substances.
Why would he refuse? Because sometimes he would give rides to co-workers. While he had no reason to suspect them of any illegal activity, you can never be sure. Judges, prosecutors and cops get arrested for drugs. Also, what about the guy that changed your oil?
If someone in your car has left something, you’re the one going to jail. Make the police do their job. If they screw up how or why they search your car, you’ve at least got something your attorney can work with. Also, if they find something, keep your mouth shut if they’re yours and if they’re not yours, politely tell them the drugs are not yours.
If they haven’t told you what kind of drugs they found, don’t blurt out it’s not your marijuana, cocaine or heroin. Just say no to searches. Doesn’t make you guilty, just smart.
