Should You Get An Attorney?

– GA, Texas

Before I went to law school I received traffic tickets on a fairly regular basis. I spent several nights at traffic court in Houston for my own tickets. I also spent a couple of nights there as a possible witness because someone went the wrong way on a one way street and hit my car.

I’ll never forget the night that the judge asked the defendants how many people wanted to fight their case. Half or more of the hands in the room shot up.

He then asked what made them think they had a chance against a prosecutor with three years of law school who knew court procedures and rules. He paused and then asked again. Most of the hands went down. These people were smart.

They knew for the most part that they shouldn’t be representing themselves. Legal matters have rules and if you don’t know the rules you are at a disadvantage. If you think you have a defense or you’re not sure, get someone who does know the rules.
