Can I Be Found Guilty Of Shoplifting If The Store Is Not Named?

– RJ, Texas

Yes. If someone is accused of shoplifting, the named victim is not usually the store. Instead the alleged victim is usually a store employee or manager. The alleged victim only has to be someone who has a greater right to the property.

A store employee is responsible for the property until it is sold. Therefore, they have more of a right to the property than the accused shoplifter. The prosecution could allege the store as the victim but it is easier for the jury to identify with a person rather than a corporation.
