Is A DWI Really That Serious?
– MC, Texas
Yes. Someone recently received a life sentence for their 7th DWI. Granted that’s an extreme example, but everybody with multiple convictions had a first conviction. Many years ago the law was that they could only go back 10 years, now they can go back to the early 80′s.
A third Austin DWI is a felony and if all three occurred in a short period of time, you could be looking at prison time for a first felony DWI. In many cases the penalty for a first felony DWI may be worse than for a first time possession of cocaine. If you have no prior felony record, possession of less than a gram of cocaine or heroin is a mandatory probation case with a maximum of 5 years of probation.
