Can I lose my right to carry a gun because of a family violence charge?

- RJ, Texas

Answer:

If you are convicted of family violence or even placed on deferred adjudication for family violence you lose your rights to possess a firearm or ammunition forever. If you are a hunter, this applies even if you are using someone else's gun. You could go to federal prison. This is just one reason why I challenge the state on every family violence case. A simple plea to a misdemeanor could affect you for the rest of your life. If you are charged with family violence and are concerned about your second amendment rights, you should contact me immediately.
